Awards
An impressive array of recent awards for Louth food producers and restaurants has strengthened Louth's status as a Good Food Town. In the past fortnight no less than five of the town's food businesses have received national and county recognition for everything everything from sausages, pies, bacon and cheese to quality cuisine. They are Trevor Fairburn Butchers and Perkins' Pantry, both in Mercer Row, The Cheese Shop in Eastgate, Melanie's Resturant in Upgate and Pocklingtons Bakery in the Market Place. The Louth Food & Drink Group, formed last year as a member of the Louth Town Partnership, congratulates the winners.
The Group, whose objective is to promote Louth as a Food Town of excellence, was the driving force behind last year's St James Summer Fayre and the Victorian Family Fayre. This year the St James event on July 17 will be focusing on food, while a re-run of the popular Victorian Family Fayre on October 23 also will have plenty of food products on offer. Already applications from market traders have poured in, and the Food & Drink Group now seeks support from more of Louth's food shops to give added impetus to the food town campaign.
