The Meridian Leisure Centre

Whilst the actual construction of the the new Leisure Centre was completed between July 2008 and January 2010 the concept has been over 10 years in the making. Local elected members at the time, including Cllr Adam Grist, were instrumental in evidencing the need and support and securing funding for the project. The Leisure Centre is by far the largest of 3 projects in the East Lindsey Community Leisure Project costing a total of £12.2M. Other smaller projects include the new Football/Cricket pavilion in Louth and the new Rugby/Football Pavilion in Skegness. Both of these projects were heavily funded through the Football Foundation. East Lindsey District Council funded the Meridian Leisure Centre, a much awaited replacement for the old Louth Swimming Pool which was opened in 1974 as a result of community fund raising under the Louth Swimming Pool charity. The District Council has been custodian of the pool since this time.

During 2005 the Council produced its strategy for facility development and after listening to the aspirations of local people  developed the concept for the new Meridian Leisure Centre. The new Centre proudly boasts an 8 lane 25m swimming pool with floating floor; 'pirate ship' themed children's play pool; sports hall; 80 station fitness suite, sauna and steam rooms; dance studios; and multi-purpose rooms. The Centre also works in partnership with Town and Country Kiddies who operate a child care and crèche facility from the Centre and the Aqua Vita cafe - a new local business established as a result of the new facility.

The centre opened its doors for the first time on 6th Feb 2010 and has been extremely well supported by the community welcoming approx 210,000 visitors to date and signing up approx 1,740 fitness members.
